Ladies and gents, we are extremely proud to bring you our exclusive chat to the most famous woman in South Africa , Evita Bezuidenhout.
The AMAZING Evita Bezuidenhout...
Former ambassadress of the Independent Black homeland of Bapetikosweti, to the best bobotie maker in South Africa – this extraordinary woman has tackled some of our country's hard hitting issues and we salute her for that!
GL: Rumor has it that Oscar-winning actress; Charlize Theron is your niece? What is the story here with Charlize and her Mom, Gerda..?
EB: I remember saying to Gerda: “Here are two single tickets to Los Angeles . Take the child now!” And how proud are we... They say Charlize based her character in Monster on a photo of me she had taken after a rainstorm in the Transvaal in 1986. Hope not!
GL: Tannie Evita, you’re the South African gem. Your clear-cut, yet optimistic political views have earned you International acclaim. What is your career highlight to date?
EB: Besides my grandchildren and cooking for Madiba, I think the most extraordinary experience was being awarded the 2000 Living Legacy Award in the USA - after people like Hillary Clinton, Princess Diana and Bette Davis had also been given it for services to the community.
GL: Who is the most interesting South African you’ve ever met and why?
EB: Again, there are many: I would say FW de Klerk, to really work out what made him change his mind about the future of South Africa . Believe me, if it wasn't for that decision, we would have been a different country today.
GL: You’re known as the best bobotie maker in the country, care to share the secret with our readers?
EB: Organisation is the answer: prepare all the ingredients, know your way on the roadmap of the recipe and then make magic. You can't make a mistake with a recipe: then it just becomes another recipe!
GL: You’ve lived a phenomenal life and inspired thousands (in all probability millions) In the words of Oprah Winfrey… What do you know for sure?
EB: We don't need a crystal ball to know what will happen tomorrow - the future of South Africa is certain; it's just the past that is unpredictable.
We are deeply grateful to Evita Bezuidenhout for making this opportunity available to the GLD and we look forward to meeting her in Darling next year!
