Indian music maestro A.R.Rahman has bagged yet another prestigious honour in the form of Crystal Award for his contribution in the field of art and music. On Wednesday, the award was conferred at the opening ceremony of annual meet of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The event was organized by 2,500 global leaders from the field of art, culture, business and religion. They came from more than 11 countries.
The meeting has been attended by Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia,
Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel and Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath.The five day meeting has started on January 26, 2011. The Mozart of Madras attended the event in an embroidered black kurta. WEF confers this award every year to outstanding artists, who use their talent for social and charitable work.
Apart from recognising his music in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, the WEF also considered his association and work for the welfare of children.
While receiving the prestigious award, Rahman said that he gets motivation from his social work. The heads of government like Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, academicians and religious leaders attended the award function.
