Katy Perry, Bret Michaels and Slash are among the stars who have turned the spotlight on victims of recent tornadoes in America by sending out heartfelt messages of support. A barrage of storms ravaged six southern states over a 24-hour period which began on Wednesday, April 27, and devastated entire neighborhoods, claiming nearly 300 lives. 

The majority of deaths occurred in Alabama, where over 200 people died.

Now a number of A-listers, rock and pop stars have united online to reach out to those affected by the disaster, taking to microblogging website Twitter to express their sympathy. Perry writes, "What is going on w/the [with the] earth these days? Think we're seeing too many warning signs! Mama Earth ain't happy, we need change. Pray for the south!" 

Poison's singer Michaels adds, "Our thoughts go out to our friends and fans who have been affected by the recent storms in the southern states," while Guns N' Roses' legend Slash called for aid in the area, "Massive loss of life & property from tornadoes in southeast USA. They're going to need a lot of moral & financial support. So much bad news lately." 

Good Charlotte's guitarist Benji Madden writes, "Thoughts & prayers goin [sic] out to the great state of Alabama tonight. Hang tough and stay strong," while country singer Jewel Kilcher posted, "All my prayers and thoughts go out to everyone in the South East effected [sic] by the storms..." 

Supermodel Miranda Kerr writes, "I wanted to let everyone know in Alabama and anywhere else recently hit by the Tornado that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Such a tragic loss of life."
