FROM TCU MEDIA RELATIONS: TCU chancellor Dr. Victor Boschini and director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte have announced a new contract for football coach Gary Patterson.

The new contract adds two years to Patterson's original deal and is now through 2018. As a private institution, TCU does not release salary figures.

Making its second straight BCS appearance, TCU defeated Wisconsin, 21-19, in the Rose Bowl to cap its first undefeated season since winning the national championship in 1938.

"Gary Patterson is an integral part of the TCU and Fort Worth communities," Boschini said. "He has a great passion for the overall mission of our university and for providing our students with a positive experience, academically, socially and athletically.

"The TCU campus is a better place with Gary Patterson."

In each of the last three seasons, TCU has been recognized by the American Football Coaches Association for its high graduation rate.

The Horned Frogs are also one of just four programs to rank in the top 25 of the current Associated Press poll and the top 25 of the Academic Progress Rate (APR).

In 10 seasons as TCU's head coach, Patterson has led the Horned Frogs to at least 10 wins seven times, including six seasons of at least 11 victories. No other coach in TCU history has more than two 10-win campaigns. The Horned Frogs have posted back-to-back undefeated regular seasons and are 36-3 overall the last three years.

When averaging out the final AP rankings from the last two seasons and the current 2010 poll, TCU ranks first with an average ranking of 5.3. The Horned Frogs finished seventh in 2008 and sixth in 2009. TCU entered the Rose Bowl ranked third.

"I would like to thank Chancellor Boschini, our Board of Trustees and Chris Del Conte for the support they provide in allowing us to have a football program that makes TCU and Fort Worth proud," Patterson said. "Our administration's commitment to the goals we have in our program have enabled us to be successful and to keep pushing forward."

Patterson received nine National Coach of the Year honors in 2009. His 98-28 (.778) record is the best mark of the four coaches at TCU to be on the sideline for at least 100 games. Patterson's 98 wins are second on the Horned Frogs' career victory list, trailing only Dutch Meyer (109-79-13, .575). Meyer coached TCU to its 1935 and 1938 national championships.

Patterson's .778 winning percentage is second nationally among active coaches with a minimum of five years experience.

"Gary Patterson is simply the best football coach in America," Del Conte said. "He has done a remarkable job in energizing a campus and community around his program and TCU as a whole.

"To see a sea of purple in the stands at the Rose Bowl is a testament to what Gary and his staff have accomplished. We couldn't be more proud to have him as our coach and leader. He is a perfect fit for TCU."

TCU is 16-3 in its last 19 games against teams from conferences with automatic BCS bids.

The Horned Frogs have won six conference titles with Patterson on staff with 12 bowl appearances in 13 years. TCU is 8-4 in bowl games with Patterson at TCU. Prior to Patterson's arrival on campus as defensive coordinator in 1998, the Horned Frogs had just four bowl wins in their history.

In 10 seasons as a head coach, Patterson has coached 130 All-Conference selections, 13 first-team All-Americans, 11 Freshman All-Americans and two Academic All-Americans.

As TCU's head coach, Patterson has had 24 players drafted and a total of 47 in NFL camps.
