I have an issue with new Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov. My issues is not with him buying the Nets franchise, my issue is with all the nonsense this guy have been spouting out of his mouth since he was approved by the league.

"How fast can we build a championship team? If everything goes as planned, I expect us to be in the playoffs next season and [win a] championship in one year minimum, and maximum in five years," said Prokhorov, approved May 11 as majority owner of the Nets.

He said he plans to tell free agents that "the excitement is with the Nets.

Yes Mr. Prokhorov, that sounds all fine and dandy, but it really isn’t that easy.

NBA Championships aren’t easy to come by. I know Prokhorov has more money than Mark Cuban, but Cuban is a billionaire and still hasn’t been able to win a championship. It doesn’t matter if you have one billion or twenty billion, there is a limit to how much you can actually pay out in salary. It isn’t like Mikhail Prokhorov can spend $5 billion on player salaries. There is a salary cap in the NBA…at some point you can only offer up so much.

Plus, look at the Cleveland Cavalier. They have one of the two best players in the NBA and still couldn’t win a title.

I will give the guy props if he actually gets the Nets a championship in the next five years, but I just don’t see it happening. It takes a good team with a good coach, timing, and luck to win a championship in the NBA. It isn’t all about money. This guy is making it sound like it will just be a walk in the park and he is in for a rude awakening.

The Mavs have now dropped three games in a row for the first time this season and things aren’t looking good. Dallas is 11-11 through their last twenty two games and if this team doesn’t turn it around soon, we can all expect another first round exit from the playoffs.

This Mavs team has become stale. Players seem like they are going through the motions, and there have been events that just make you want to scratch your head. Example, why has there been two games in the last week where Dirk doesn’t take a shot in the 4^th quarter? How can you justify your best player not getting the ball down the stretch? That is inexcusable. Whether it’s the players or the coaches, that problem needs to be solved.

Then, you get this quote from Mark Cuban who was interviewed by Gina Miller on TXA 21, “I think we are just in the time of year where guys get bored, got to get re-energized. I think we've taken who we are for granted in some respects and that we can turn it on and just beat people.” First of all, why is your team getting bored? What have they accomplished? The Mavs aren’t defending champions, your team isn’t blowing other teams out, so why are they bored? The Lakers can be bored, but the Mavs? They haven’t done a damn thing. This is one of the most ridiculous quotes I have ever seen from Cuban. Secondly, I am surprised that someone like Cuban, who is so caught up in selling tickets, would say his team is bored. That will sure get me out to the arena.

I think this group realizes something has to be done if they want a realistic chance at making a run at the NBA Finals. The team and the fans have all seen what this core group is about. They will go out and win 50 games and be eliminated in the first or second round. That is it. I don’t understand how Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson sit there and actually think this year will be different from the rest? MAKE A MOVE MARK!!! This is basically the same team as last year. Replace last year’s Josh with Shawn Marion this year, and this year’s Josh is playing like last year’s Antoine Wright, so everything you did in the offseason was a push. Why can’t you see this?

When you bring back basically the same team year after year after year, they are bound to get stale unless you shake it up a little bit. Dirk has needed a second option on offense for YEARS and Cuban has yet to bring someone in to help him out. No, don’t tell me Jason Terry either. A title will never come to this city if you never bring in a legit second option or a big man who can control the paint. It isn’t going to happen!

This team and organization is so damn frustrating right now. All the fans see that something must be done, but nothing ever gets done. If Josh isn’t shipped out by the trade deadline, it will be just another wasted year for Dirk Nowitzki. I’m not even going to get into how embarrassing it is that J.J. Barea is your backup point guard. I’m already angry enough as is.

I was thinking about this the other day and since the decade is coming to an end, there isn’t a better time to post this. I was thinking about the most controversial sports moments of the decade and also some of the biggest scandals of the decade. I think the two go hand and hand, so why not combine them.

Here are some of the things I thought about…Give me your opinion and if you would add something.

MLB Steroid Scandal: This spanned a lot of the decade and was a very big story for the media and sports fans. Congress even had to get involved with this. Some of the biggest players in the game have been linked to steroids this decade. A-Rod, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire…you can go on and on.

Pacers/Pistons Palace Brawl: I remember seeing this and being amazed that this actually happened. SportsCenter kept replaying clips all night of what happened. I will always remember Jermaine O’Neal straight dropping that fan on the sidelines!

New England Patriots Spy Gate: I think this bothered most NFL fans simply because most of us hate the Patriots. Outside of the fines, there were really no consequences for what New England did. They destroyed the tapes and that was pretty much the end of that. I still think more should have come out of this. They should have at least shown the tapes or something.

Tim Donaghy Referee Betting Scandal: This event pretty much confirmed all thoughts NBA fans have been having for years. Most thought the NBA was set up in some form or fashion and then a referee pops up who had been betting on games. Although some of his claims seem a little off, a lot of them seem completely believable.

Auburn Shut out of BCS Title Game in 2004: I still can’t believe this happened and it upsets me to this day and I’m not even an Auburn fan. I don’t really consider this a scandal, but it was VERY controversial. How did the BCS not allow an undefeated SEC team play for the Championship? They were a great team that season and deserved to be in that game.

2006 NBA Finals- Mavs/Heat: This one hits close to home and I probably will never forget this series. No matter what anyone says, there was something fishy going on there and I will always believe Stern set it up for the Mavs to lose. David Stern didn’t want to see Mark Cuban celebrate a championship and that’s the bottom line. The Mavs were up 2-0 and had the series stolen from them by D. Whistle and the referees.

Barry Bonds passing Hank Aaron as Home Run King: There are still people who refuse to acknowledge Barry Bonds as the record holder for the most home runs. Bonds has been linked to steroids for a while now and it seems to bother a lot of people. I personally like Barry Bonds and think he gets too much of a bad rap.

Michael Vick Dog Fighting Ring: Michael Vick was on top of the world and if he hadn’t lied, he probably would still be a good QB in the NFL. He got caught up in a terrible activity and ended up serving time for it. Now he is a shell of his former self and backs up Donovan McNabb in Philadelphia.
