Super Bowl week in North Texas has come and gone and hopefully everything returns to normal, including the weather. The week was an eventful one, but for all the wrong reasons. The worst possible scenario played out right before our eyes, which is why Super Bowl XLV in North Texas gets a D.

Let’s start with the weather. Now I know that wasn’t in anyone’s control, but the weather was terrible. It could have been worse, but not by much. The fact that it iced is what made it so bad. I can handle cold, rain, and even some snow, but ice? I can’t deal with ice. Add in that the road crews use sand instead of salt, and it made for a disaster. Thankfully Saturday and Sunday were a little better, but the stadium did the fans no favors.

Which leads us the seating fiasco…1,250 fans did not have their assigned seat when they entered the stadium. The NFL had issues with the temporary seating areas and was not able to use the seats. They were able to find seats for about 850 of the 1,250, but 400 were left without a place to sit. Those fans got reimbursed with money, tickets to next year’s Super Bowl in Indianapolis, and other memorabilia, but in my opinion, that doesn’t make up for the inconvenience. I am interested to see if any lawsuits come about because of this situation.

Once you got inside the stadium (after standing in massive security lines) you got to enjoy a terrible national anthem and mediocre half time show. I had always thought Christina Aguilera had a nice voice until I heard her sing the Star-Spangled Banner. Not only was it bad, she messed it up.

Then you had the Black Eyed Peas for half time…I will give them that the production and choreography was well done, but I can’t get into their music. I still think they could have got someone better. And what is up with Usher being involved? Did they really need him?

The only thing that saved this week was the game itself, which is what it should be about. The Packers and Steelers played a pretty good game, and it was hard not be entertained. The commercials were fairly weak though.

On a positive note, major props to the city of Ft. Worth. They were the home of the Steelers and ESPN for the week, and the city looked great. As I said it would be, Sundance Square was the place to be, and it was popping a lot more than Dallas due to everything being within walking distance. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said Sundance Square is one of the best setups ESPN has ever had for the Super Bowl. I had never seen that area as crowded as it was on Saturday. Sundance Square was packed with people!

Hopefully the Super Bowl comes back, and I think it will. Jerry Jones has too much pull with the NFL and the weather was somewhat of a fluke. Everyone should learn from this experience to make the next go around that much better.

It is officially Super Bowl Sunday so I have to get my prediction in. I think it’s going to be a really good game and the fans will be entertained. Obviously both teams are good or they wouldn’t have made it to this point, but I am going with the Steelers over the Packers 31-27.

I think the Steelers running game and defense is better than what the Packers have. Plus, throw in the experience of Big Ben in big games and I don’t think Green Bay will have enough.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you should know by now that the Pittsburgh Steelers will be staying in Ft. Worth, and practicing at TCU for Super Bowl XLV. It is a disappointment that the Jets and LaDainian Tomlinson won’t be making the trip, but TCU and Ft. Worth welcome the Steelers with open arms.

Pittsburgh fans are getting the better end of this deal by far. The team is staying at the Omni in downtown Ft. Worth, which means that will be ground zero for Steelers nation. Ft. Worth will be a lot more entertaining than Dallas or Arlington if you are looking for a true Texas experience. Plus, ESPN is broadcasting from Ft. Worth, so you have that attraction as well.

With Sundance Square, the cultural district, and the Stockyards, there should be plenty for you to do and see. There isn’t a whole lot to see in Arlington besides Cowboys Stadium and the Ballpark. Dallas is just like any other big city you have ever been to.

I am looking forward to seeing what Super Bowl week is all about. I am sure the traffic will be ridiculous. I leave you with this question, if someone gave you 2 free tickets to the Super Bowl, would you go to the game, or would you sell them? I would sell them.

I am sure we can expect all kinds of Super Bowl news over the next seven months as the hype for the big game in Arlington grows. We know that the AFC Champion will be using TCU’s practice facilities, and now we know ESPN will be joining them in Ft. Worth.

ESPN took a look at Dallas and Fort Worth to determine which would be the ideal setting for its studio shows leading up to Super Bowl XLV, and the worldwide leader in sports chose where the West begins.

Shows in ESPN's family of networks such as NFL Live will be live from Fort Worth, specifically Sundance Square, and not from Dallas or its surrounding suburbs.

Suck it Dallas!

It was announced yesterday that New York (more like New Jersey) will host Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. This is a terrible decision by the NFL. Not only does this change the philosophy of holding the Super Bowl in a warm weather city, it also isn’t fair for the rest of the league.

First, the Super Bowl for the most part is held in warm weather cities. Why is there the sudden need to change that since New York has a new stadium? The weather plays way too much of a factor there. There is a HUGE difference between possible rain in Miami versus a blizzard in New York. What happens if four feet of snow fall Super Bowl weekend and the game can’t be played? Are you going to move the Super Bowl to Monday? Are you going to schedule it on Saturday in case you have to push it back to Sunday? There obviously has to be some sort of backup plan.

Now, I know the average temperature for New York at the beginning of February is around 25-40 degrees, but you also have to remember that the game will be played in the evening which will make it even colder. If the weather is fine, obviously it’s no issue and it will just be cold, but if something drastic happens and the game can’t be played, or the NFL’s biggest game ends 7-3 because everyone was slipping around on snow, people will be upset.

I know what you are thinking, “well Angry One, they play the NFC and AFC Championship games outdoors in bad weather.” Yes, you are right, but it’s not the same. The team that has home field in conference championship games have earned the right to play on their field, in weather conditions they are accustomed to. It is part of having home field advantage in the playoffs. The Super Bowl is the NFL’s biggest game and decides its champion, you don’t want weather conditions playing a factor in who wins.

Not only does it make no sense because of the weather factors, but if I own an NFL team in a cold weather city, I am extremely pissed off right now. If New York can host a Super Bowl then why shouldn’t Philadelphia, Denver, Washington, or Seattle? They all have nice stadiums and I am sure they would love to rake in some of that Super Bowl money for their team and city.

You can’t just bend and adjust the rules for New York. If this is the new standard that the league wants to set, then all NFL cities should have a fair shot at hosting the Super Bowl, not just Southern Cities and sometimes New Jersey…I mean New York.
