TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes has been named a Midseason All-American by Sporting News.
Hughes has 9 1/2 tackles for loss, including eight sacks, in TCU's opening six games. His average of 1.3 sacks per game is ahead of the 1.2 pace he had last season when he led the nation with 15 sacks.
A senior from Sugar Land, Texas, Hughes has 31 tackles to place third on the Horned Frogs. He totaled a career-high 11 stops in the season-opening 30-14 victory at Virginia.
Also named last week to Phil Steele's Midseason All-America team, Hughes is one of 12 semifinalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award. He is also a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and quarterfinalist for the Lott Trophy.
Hughes is a communications major on pace to graduate this spring. No. 7 TCU is at No. 16 BYU Saturday. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. MDT.
