TCU sent out and posted on their website the game notes for this Saturday’s opener against Oregon State in the Cowboys Classic. There are some interesting numbers and notes in there, but I want to focus on the depth chart.
There have been a lot of questions about the depth chart going into this season. Who is going to back up Andy Dalton? Who will start opposite Wayne Daniels on the defensive line? Those questions appear to have been answered.
- The depth chart lists #4 Casey Pachall as the backup QB to Andy Dalton. Pachall and Yogi Gallegos have been battling for that position, but it looks like Pachall has finally taken that spot over. In the practices I saw, I was more impressed with Casey Pachall.

- Marshal Newhouse graduating and going pro left a big hole at the left tackle position. Pre-season All-American Marcus Cannon has been moved from right tackle to left, and senior Zach Roth will hold down the right tackle slot.
- Here is the change that surprised me the most, redshirt freshman Stansly Maponga is listed at the top of the chart at the left defensive end position. It also has “or” Braylon Broughton. I am not sure which one will start, I have seen depth charts with Broughton and Forrest as the number one’s at that slot also, but I thought it was very interesting. It is definitely something to keep your eye on. I know a lot of Frog fans that are anxious to see what Maponga can do.
- Daniel Shelley is the new long snapper replacing Clint Gresham.
