Well, sound the idiot alarm because a couple of them showed themselves recently with postings about Andy Dalton that make no sense. Take a look.
First, we have David Ramsey of the Colorado Springs Gazette. Mr. Ramsey had this to say…
Andy Dalton is not an NFL starter.
He was a nice college quaterback who fit perfectly into Texas Christian’s offensive system. He often demolished Air Force. He won a massive pile of college games, but several dozen other college quarterbacks would have collected just as many victories.
And maybe a couple more. (Thinking about that 2010 bowl battle against Boise State and TCU’s 2007 loss at Air Force. Dalton’s throw to AFA’s Carson Bird remains the single dumbest throw I’ve ever seen in person.)
Dalton does not have the arm strength to succeed in the NFL. He might spend four or five years as a backup, but I don’t see him starting another game in his life.
So let me get this straight, the single dumbest throw you have ever seen in person was thrown by a guy starting his third career college game? Are you really going to say one bad throw in his freshman season is a reason not to draft him? This can’t be real life?
As far as the amount of games he has won, if so many others could have done it, why haven’t they? Show me the list of QB’s who led their teams to back to back undefeated regular seasons. I don’t care what conference you play in, that isn’t an easy feat. It’s also ridiculous to hold the talent he faced against him. He did all he was asked. He won games, put up stats, and ran the offense. Not sure what else Mr. Ramsey is looking for.
If you see him as a career backup, that’s fine, but to use the competition he played against, and one throw from his freshman season as reasons not to draft him is absurd.
Let’s move on to another prediction involving Andy Dalton. This one comes from Pete Fiutak of CollegeFootballNews.com. Fiutak’s prediction is that Dalton will be drafted in the 5th round. Yes, you read that right. While every other draft analyst and scout has Dalton going in the top 3 rounds, Pete has Dalton going in the 5th.
Now, Pete’s break down of Dalton is much better than Ramsey’s, but a 5th round prediction? Come on now. I will be shocked if Dalton is still available in the middle of the 3rd round, much less the 5th.
