I think this might be the first I have heard of a University actually telling a student athlete to stay away from class. Nonetheless, BYU has asked basketball “star” Jimmer Fredette to quit coming to class because he is a distraction.
College basketball's consensus national player of the year is doing all his schoolwork online this semester because his presence had become a distraction in class. Al Fredette told the Glens Falls Post-Star that starstruck students were approaching his son during lectures for autographs and photographs.
"It was getting too disruptive," Al Fredette said. "He can't go anywhere in Provo without being recognized."
Is disrupting class a violation of the BYU Honor Code?

TCU AD Chris Del Conte released another edition of Notes on a Scorecard today and it seems there is always a nugget of new information being passed along. This one doesn’t disappoint.
Our Friday, Oct. 28 game with BYU at Cowboys Stadium will be part of our season-ticket package. Club seats will be $65 with regular seats at $45. The student ticket price is $25. When single-game seats are made available Aug. 1, the club seat price will be $75 with regular seats $55. Be sure to order additional BYU tickets with your season-ticket renewal. Club seat prices are half the cost of last year's Oregon State game at Cowboys Stadium.
I am glad TCU is doing this. From what I have been told, TCU had this option for last season’s game against Oregon State but declined. I am also happy to see the ticket prices go down. I paid more for my ticket to the Oregon State game than I did for the Fiesta or Rose Bowl, that shouldn’t happen. Hopefully these prices make it easier for families and casual fans to make it out to the game.

Here is a quick update on the TCU-BYU game at Cowboys Stadium. The game was originally scheduled to air on ESPN2, but according to Stephen Stevenson of the Star-Telegram, that game has now been moved to ESPN.

From TCU Media Relations: A Sept. 3 season opener at Baylor and a Friday, Oct. 28, contest with BYU at Cowboys Stadium on ESPN2 highlights TCU's 2011 non-conference football schedule.
Following an open date Sept. 10, the Rose Bowl-champion Horned Frogs will have three consecutive home games at Amon G. Carter Stadium, currently undergoing a $105 million renovation.
TCU's 2011 home debut will be Sept. 17 versus Louisiana-Monroe. The Horned Frogs will then face Portland State (Sept. 24) and SMU (Oct. 1).
For the second straight year, TCU will play at Cowboys Stadium in nearby Arlington. After defeating Oregon State 30-21 in last year's season opener, the Horned Frogs will face former Mountain West Conference rival BYU on Friday, Oct. 28.
"We're very excited about our non-conference schedule, especially with being able to maintain some old and new rivalries for us," TCU football coach Gary Patterson said. "Between our home schedule and being able to play BYU at Cowboys Stadium, we're pleased that our fans will have seven opportunities to see us in the Metroplex."
TCU is in its final season in the MWC before joining the Big East Conference in 2012.
The dates of the Horned Frogs' MWC contests will be announced by the league office this spring. TCU will host Colorado State, New Mexico and UNLV while traveling to Air Force, Boise State, San Diego State and Wyoming.
TCU won 45-10 over Baylor last season to take a 50-49-7 lead in the all-time series between the ex-Southwest Conference members. TCU has faced Baylormore than any other opponent in its history.
In the battle for the Iron Skillet, the Horned Frogs have defeated SMU in 10 of their last 11 meetings. TCU won 41-24 in Dallas last season.
TCU has won its last three games with BYU, including 31-3 last season in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs were 4-2 against the Cougars in their six years of MWC competition.
TCU will be facing Louisiana-Monroe and Portland State for the first time.
The Horned Frogs return 11 starters from last year's Rose Bowl championship squad that posted a 13-0 record and No. 2 final ranking in season-ending polls by the Associated Press and USA Today.

TCU is 7-0 for the second-straight year and fourth time in 11 seasons as they dominated BYU 31-3 Saturday afternoon at Amon G. Carter Stadium. TCU has now outscored BYU 101-17 in their last 3 meetings. It looks like BYU needs to go independent just to get away from the beat downs TCU has been administering to them. Let’s break this one down…
- I always like to start with Andy Dalton. Not much from today that I can complain about. Andy was 24-of-36 for 273 yards and 4 touchdowns. Dalton has now completed 76.3 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and no interceptions in four home games this season. I wasn’t sure about some of the play calling today, but that’s not Dalton’s fault.
- Welcome to the big show Josh Boyce. You have been hearing his name more and more as the season has gone on, and today was his break out performance. Boyce had 8 catches for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is going to be a valuable target for the Frogs for years to come.
- I thought the offense overall seemed a little off. Yes they put up points and got the job done, but it didn’t look as good as it has in other games. That could be in part to BYU’s defense.
- The defense was outstanding once again today. TCU held BYU to 147 yards of offense which marked the lowest total by a TCU opponent since San Diego State was held to 87 yards in 2008. The 27-yard field goal by BYU with 1:14 to play in the third quarter were the first points TCU has allowed in a span of 175:10. It covered four games dating back to the September 24th game at SMU.
- Tank Carder came up with a huge interception in the 2nd quarter that was a big momentum shifter and got the Frogs going in the right direction.
- Tekerrein Cuba has been a huge addition to the defense this season. I felt like I was constantly hearing his name over the loud speaker today. Cuba finished with 9 tackles and has 21 stops in the last two games.
- The Frogs debuted a new uniform combination we had not seen before. They wore the regular purple home jerseys with this year’s Pro Combat helmet and pants. I thought it looked really good.
- At least we don’t have to see any more of BYU. Their fans and the things the Utah media write about them drives me crazy. The Cougars will now fade into irrelevance and regret the day they decided to go independent.
The next game is a matchup against a very good Air Force team next Saturday night at The Carter. TCU needs all the fans to be there and be loud because Air Force is no pushover.
