Boise State, you better get your institution under control…
The National Collegiate Athletic Association has charged Boise State with a major violation and a lack of institutional control after the university reported a host of secondary violations across five sports dating to 2005 and an alleged major violation by the former women’s tennis coach in 2010.
The majority of secondary violations involve impermissible housing, transportation and meals for incoming student-athletes in the days and weeks before school started, Boise State said.
All told, 79 student-athletes received improper services totaling $5,652. Of them, 63 were football players for $4,934. All of the money has been reimbursed and donated to charity. Another five international track and field athletes participated in improper practices from 2005 to 2008.
I’m sure the NCAA will now attempt to throw the death penalty at them since they aren’t Auburn or Ohio State…

I think this might be the first I have heard of a University actually telling a student athlete to stay away from class. Nonetheless, BYU has asked basketball “star” Jimmer Fredette to quit coming to class because he is a distraction.
College basketball's consensus national player of the year is doing all his schoolwork online this semester because his presence had become a distraction in class. Al Fredette told the Glens Falls Post-Star that starstruck students were approaching his son during lectures for autographs and photographs.
"It was getting too disruptive," Al Fredette said. "He can't go anywhere in Provo without being recognized."
Is disrupting class a violation of the BYU Honor Code?

A home date with SMU has been moved to Friday, Sept. 30, with a 7 p.m. kickoff on CBS Sports Network. It will be the first of two Friday games for TCU this season. The Horned Frogs will face BYU on Friday, Oct. 28, at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. That game will be televised on ESPN.
The SMU game will mark TCU's first Friday contest in Amon G. Carter Stadium since Nov. 23, 2001, when the Horned Frogs recorded a 37-22 victory over No. 17 Louisville. It will also be the second straight year TCU and SMU have played on a Friday. The Horned Frogs won 41-24 last season in Dallas. TCU and SMU last met in a Friday game in Fort Worth in 1999 with the Horned Frogs taking a 21-0 decision.
Eleven of TCU's 12 games will be televised.
TCU will make its debut in a renovated Amon G. Carter Stadium on Sept. 17 when it hosts Louisiana-Monroe at 1 p.m. That will be the first of four home day games for the Horned Frogs.
Outside of SMU, the only other home night game for TCU is a Sept. 24 contest with Portland State at 6 p.m.
TCU's Oct. 22 and Nov. 19 home dates with New Mexico and Colorado State will start at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively. The Dec. 3 regular-season finale with UNLV at Amon G. Carter Stadium will kickoff at 1:30 p.m.
The lone MWC game without a kickoff time set is the league opener Sept. 10 at Air Force. Kickoff will either be at 2:30 or 6:30 p.m. CDT.

The entire 2011 TCU football schedule has been released, now it’s time to break it down.
- The Frogs have two of their toughest road tests right off the bat. Baylor is Baylor, but Air Force always plays TCU tight in Colorado Springs. At least the weather shouldn’t be too bad. Hopefully this young TCU team will be ready to go.
- Outside of the San Diego State and New Mexico games, the Frogs either have back to back home games or back to back away games.
- It will be tough traveling to Wyoming then flying back to Ft. Worth to turn around and fly to Boise. I’m sure Wyoming and Idaho are just lovely in November.
- Bye weeks before New Mexico and UNLV do not really help much.
- All games are on Saturday except for the matchup with BYU which is on a Friday. You can thank the awesome BYU TV deal for that one.
- Kickoff times and television plans for TCU's seven MWC games will be announced at a later date.
- Not alot of high profile home games. It doesn't look like College Gameday will be returning to Ft. Worth in 2011.
The move to the Big East cannot come soon enough. As of right now, I think the Frogs go 10-2. My opinion could change though, the team starts spring practice tomorrow. TCU won’t be as depleted this season as everyone thinks. I am disappointed with this schedule, but there is nothing I can do about it.
