The 2010-2011 NBA season is officially underway and the Mavs kickoff their season tonight against Charlotte at the American Airlines Center. This team is very similar to the Maverick team that was ousted in the first round of the playoffs last season. It will be interesting to see if they can make a deep run into the playoffs, or will one of the oldest teams in the league finally fail to pull out a 50 win season?

I am going to tell you this right now. I am one of the most unenthused Mavs fan around right now. I don’t like this team at all. Yes, the Mavs added Dominique Jones through the draft, and were able to get rid of Erick Dampier for Tyson Chandler, but that still isn’t enough to put the Mavs over the hump. The additions Dallas made were upgrades, but it won’t be enough to accomplish the ultimate goal which is a NBA Championship.

Here are my concerns…

1. Jason Kidd is a year older. I’m one of the biggest Jason Kidd defenders there is, but at some point he can’t continue to play at the level he is for 35 minutes a game. At some point he is going to go from Jason Kidd to Brett Favre and if it’s this season, the Mavs are in trouble.

2. I like Dominique Jones, but does anyone think Rick Carlisle will play him? We all saw how he handled Rodrigue Beaubois last season.

3. Speaking of Roddy B, I am not sold on him. Mavs fans want to hype this guy up as the savior, but I’m not buying into the hype just yet. He has shown flashes of greatness, but he has also been out of control and prone to turning the ball over. Plus, the Mavs ultimate goal for him is to play point guard and nobody knows if he is even able to do that.

4. Will we see the Sixth Man of the Year Jason Terry or will the Jason Terry from last season be sticking around for a little while longer? If the Mavs can’t get consistent points from JET, it will be another long season of Dirk carrying the team.

5. What will the Mavs get from Caron Butler? There has been a lot of talk in the preseason about how good of shape he is in, but lets see it on the court. Dirk is still searching for his Robin.

6. Lastly, why did DeShawn Stevenson shave his beard? That is no good!!

The Mavs will be a good team this season, and they will win over 50 games once again, but once again it won’t matter because they won’t go deep into the playoffs. I think the Mavs will win 53 games and finish 4th in the Western Conference. They will get eliminated in the first round once again, second round if they are lucky. I have a feeling it’s going to be a longggg season.
