Can you believe that Lady Gaga scored her billionth hit for overall views on YouTube… it’s clear that this girl is well on her way to world domination.

Given that I’m an avid Facebook follower of the superstar and take pleasure in her regular updates, it’s quite insane to experience the “power” she enjoys… Well, in fact is it power or just a translation into the ordinary recognition that comes with the job?
Is power equivalent to the balance in the bank or the influence of millions without the expectation of the green stuff?

According to an EOnline article The Head of Marketing Distillery, J.P Clement stated that “If by power you mean popularity, then, yes this is a major deal. Views, just like fans and followers, do not mean much, except that an artist, or brand, is very popular. That’s mostly because metrics are not a good gauge of engagement, and without engagement there’s no behavioral change, therefore, little impact on things like sales”

So… what this basically means is that although Gaga has half the world following her on all these social networks, she’s actually powerless if they don’t buy her products or share the gossip in order to generate global hype, meaning even less interest and power? Are the Gaga fans as loyal as they seem or just dead weight?

Thoughts on this?
