It is reported that Paul the Octopus has died in Germany as confirmed by Stefan Porwoll, General Manager of the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre.

Paul correctly predicted the World Cup results and became an overnight success. Porwoll added that it appears that Paul passed away peacefully in his sleep and that they may decide to erect a shrine in memory of this beautiful creature.

File picture shows octopus Paul, the so-called octopus oracle as it predicts Spain's victory in their 2010 World Cup semi-final soccer match against Germany by choosing a mussel from a glass box decorated with the Spanish national flag instead of a glass box with the German flag, at the Sea Life Aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen July 6, 2010. The oracle octopus Paul, who shot to fame during the World Cup this summer for accurately predicting the results of Germany's matches, has died aged two, the spokesman for the aquarium where he lived said on October 26, 2010. The octopus was born in England and lived in a Sea Life aquarium in the northwestern German town of Oberhausen. Picture taken July 6, 2010.
