From TCU Media Relations: TCU linebacker Tank Carder is a first-team choice, while fellow linebacker Tanner Brock and tailback Ed Wesley are honorable-mention selections on the 2011 GoDaddy.com Preseason All-America Team.
Carder and Brock, who comprise the linebacking duo in TCU's 4-2-5 defensive scheme, are two of six returning defensive starters for the Horned Frogs.
Carder was named to five All-America teams last season, including first-team honors by the American Football Coaches Association and ESPN.com. He was also the Rose Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player in TCU's 21-19 victory over Wisconsin.
A rising senior from Sweeny, Texas, Carder has been instrumental in TCU leading the nation in total defense each of the last three seasons. He posted 60 tackles last year, including 9 1/2 for loss. He totaled 3 1/2 sacks, five pass breakups and an interception.
In the Rose Bowl, Carder broke up the Badgers' potential game-tying 2-point pass with exactly two minutes to play. He totaled six tackles in the contest, including three for loss with a sack.
After TCU took a 21-13 lead on its opening possession of the second half, Wisconsin drove to the Horned Frogs' 37 on its ensuring series. On a third-and-6, Carder recorded a sack for an 8-yard loss.
Brock led TCU with 106 tackles, 26 more than the next-closest Horned Frog. He wss a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection. The junior from Copperas Cove, Texas, recorded a career-high 12 tackles and an interception in TCU's 47-7 win at Utah. He added nine stops in the Rose Bowl.
Wesley, a 2010 Doak Walker Award semifinalist, was a first-team All-MWC pick. With 1,078 yards rushing, he became the first Horned Frog since 2003 to top 1,000 yards. The junior from Irving, Texas, scored a team-best 11 touchdowns. He ran for a career-high 209 yards in a 38-7 victory over Air Force.

If you attended or watched the TCU Rose Bowl celebration you might have noticed a couple of banged up TCU players. Linebacker Tank Carder had his arm in a sling and running back Ed Wesley was on crutches. Stefan Stevenson of the Star-Telegram had an update for both players on his blog Monday.
Running back Ed Wesley is still nursing a mid-season injury that was aggravated during the Rose Bowl, in which Wesley only carried the ball four times. Wesley said he has about five more weeks of recovery, which means he should be healthy for spring practice.
Carder, who injured the shoulder last spring, had surgery last week. It's unknown whether Carder will be ready for contact by April.
It looks like neither injury should be that serious. As Stefan’s posting said Wesley needs about 5 weeks to recover. 5 weeks from today would be February 21st so he should be able to heal in plenty of time.
We already know what Tank Carder is about, it’s not like he has to prove himself in spring practice. If he isn’t back in time, I am really not that concerned about it. The Frogs defense just needs him healthy for September. Tank had surgery last offseason and recovered fine, hopefully this isn’t any different.

Sixteen TCU football players have been named All-Mountain West Conference with quarterback Andy Dalton, linebacker Tank Carder and return specialist Jeremy Kerley receiving Player of the Year accolades.
Dalton is just the second player in league history to be a two-time MWC Offensive Player of the Year. He is also the first Horned Frog to be a back-to-back conference offensive player of the year since LaDainian Tomlinson (1999-00).
Carder is the third straight Horned Frog to be named the MWC Defensive Player of the Year. Former TCU All-America defensive end Jerry Hughes was the recipient the last two years.
Kerley is the second player in MWC history to earn Special Teams Player of the Year accolades on multiple occasions. He was also last year's recipient.
The Horned Frogs topped the MWC with nine first-team selections, matching a league record shared by last year's TCU squad and the 2000 Colorado State Rams.
TCU led the league in all-conference selections (17) for the fifth time in its six seasons of MWC play.

TCU blew out New Mexico 66-17 Saturday to finish the season 12-0 and clinch its second straight Mountain West Conference Championship and second straight undefeated regular season. TCU’s seniors earned their 43rd victory in the last four years, making them the winningest class in school history. Now all that awaits the Frogs is a Rose Bowl appearance or a birth in the BCS Championship game. Let’s break this one down.
- Andy Dalton had three first-quarter touchdown passes before leaving the game with a minor elbow injury. Dalton has 26 touchdown passes on the season and is now the Mountain West Conference career leader in both total offense (11,678 yards) and plays from scrimmage (1,698). Dalton’s injury was not serious and he will be fine for the bowl game.
- Congrats to Ed Wesley for going over 1,000 yards on the ground this season. Wesley is the first Horned Frog to top 1,000 yards since Robert Merrill in 2003. That is an amazing feet when you realize he basically achieved that mark in 10 games while splitting time with two other running backs.
- How good is this TCU offense? The Horned Frogs set single-season school records for touchdowns (70) and points scored (520). It’s the third straight year the Horned Frogs have established a new mark in both categories.
- I hate that Dalton had to get injured before Casey Pachall got major playing time, but it was nice to see him receive meaningful minutes. Once he settled down, he had a fairly decent game. As for Yogi Gallegos, he should probably remain on the sidelines.
- The Horned Frogs scored in every quarter against New Mexico and have scored in all but one quarter this season.
- Sixteen of TCU’s last 19 victories have been by at least 27 points. Seventeen of the 19 wins are by 17 points or more.
The Frogs will remain #3 in the BCS rankings tomorrow, and don’t listen to what anyone says, if Auburn or Oregon lose next weekend, TCU will be in the BCS Championship Game. If things remain the same, TCU will be in Pasadena for New Years. Not a bad consolation prize, but I haven’t given up hope yet.
It has been another great season and this team took us all on another exciting thrill ride. Being a Frog fan just keeps getting better and better.

From TCU Media Relations: After rushing for 209 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 38-7 win over Air Force, TCU sophomore tailback Ed Wesley has been named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Wesley single-handedly outrushed (209-184) an Air Force team that entered the game as the nation’s leading ground attack at 346.9 yards per game. An Irving, Texas, native, Wesley posted TCU’s first 200-yard game and the most yards by a Frog since Joseph Turner totaled 226 yards rushing at San Diego State in 2007.
Wesley had the 24th 200-yard game in TCU history and the 20th-best single-game total.
Wesley has a team-high 874 yards rushing, already the highest single-season total by a Frog since Robert Merrill finished the 2005 campaign with 911 yards.
Wesley is on pace for 1,420 yards this season. He would become TCU’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Merrill ran for 1,107 yards in 2003.
Wesley ranks second in the MWC and 13th nationally with his 109.2 yards per game mark. He’s the first Frog to average over 100 yards a game since Lonta Hobbs (128.6) in 2002.
At his current pace, Wesley would have TCU’s highest single-season rushing total since LaDainian Tomlinson led the nation with 2,158 yards in 2000.

TCU handled business like true professionals once again Saturday night as they took down Air Force 38-7 on a cool Ft. Worth evening. Rain threatened this game all day, but once it came time to step on the field, there wasn’t a rain cloud to be seen. TCU is now 8-0 for the second straight year and third time in the last eight seasons. Let’s break it down…
- I will start with the man who will anchor the TCU backfield for many more seasons, Ed Wesley. Wesley rushed for a career high 209 yard on 28 carries and 2 touchdowns. This was Wesley’s fourth 100 yard rushing games of the season and the guy continues to impress. I know I came into this season expecting Matthew Tucker to be the big playmaker at running back, but Ed Wesley’s star is the one shining bright right now.
- Andy Dalton was 11-of-20 for 185 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Dalton also added a career high 93 yards on the ground and a rushing TD. It was the typical game for Andy. He had a couple of ill-advised throws, but other than that, he did what was needed.
- The Horned Frog defense was stout once again. A lot of people were worried about the defense coming into the season, but they have picked up where they left off last season. Air Force’s touchdown with 6:36 left in the first quarter was the first touchdown TCU surrendered in four October games and a span of 199:48.
- For those of you keeping up with TCU’s uniform situation, they debuted a new look once again Saturday night. The Frogs went with the black Nike Pro Combat jersey from this season with their black pants and the Pro Combat helmet from last season. It looked good, but it’s not my favorite. This is the 6th different uniform combination we have seen from the Frogs this season and I love it!!
- Check out this amazing stat, in four Mountain West Conference games this season, TCU has outscored its opponents 141-10.
Next up for the Frogs is a late night game on the road against UNLV. TCU should win this one easily also, but they have to be careful not to get caught up looking ahead to Utah. I am sure Coach Patterson will keep the team focused.
