Well, as everyone knows by now the Mavericks have acquired Shawn Marion from the Raptors. This is a great move and Mavs fans should be thrilled. (Especially when you think about what Dallas gave up.)Let me tell you why this is good.
- Shawn Marion is athletic. We all know he is older now, but he has the ability to slash to the rim and create his own shots. He is also a pretty good defender and rebounder.
- His lowest average of points per game in a season came as a rookie and he still averaged 10.2 ppg. He has averaged at least 12 points per game and 6 rebounds per game in his other 9 seasons. In 27 games with Toronto last season he averaged 14.3 ppg, and 8.3 rpg.
- He will be playing with Jason Kidd. Enough said there.
This team managed to win 50 games last season even with all the injuries. If you add Shawn Marion, Marcin Gortat and a healthy Josh Howard to that same team, they have to improve. You are adding athleticism and scoring where you didn’t have it this previous season.
