La Liga on ESPN

ESPN announced today a deal that will bring Spain's La Liga, the most prestigious European league in the world, to ESPN for the first time. Contested by 20 teams and ranked as the top European league by UEFA more than any other European league, La Liga features several of the world's powerhouse soccer clubs and world-renown players.

"La Liga has become the preeminent soccer league in the world. Fans want to watch the best footballers in the world, and with Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero, Ruud van Nistelrooy - the list goes on-and-on - we are giving them exactly that," said Eric Conrad, director of programming, ESPN Deportes.

Like other recent ESPN rights acquisitions, the agreement provides access to extensive content that fuel ESPN's multimedia assets. ESPN Deportes will provide exclusive Spanish-language coverage of more than 95 regular-season matches live and ESPN Deportes Radio will broadcast select matches. ESPN360.com will stream at least 114 matches, including all 95 ESPN Deportes matches live in English plus additional matches. ESPN2 will televise approximately 20 games and ESPN Mobile TV (on FLO TV and MobiTV) will also stream select games live to mobile devices.

ESPN Deportes and ESPN360.com will also have rights to Copa del Rey, Spain's domestic cup tournament and ESPNdeportes.com and ESPNSoccernet will deliver complete coverage including highlights and news video, original reporting, columns, match previews, player profiles and real-time scores and data.

Don't miss the action starting August 2009.
