DALLAS- Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki was named All-NBA Second Team, the NBA announced today. It is the tenth consecutive season Nowitzki has been named All-NBA.
“It is always an honor to make the All-NBA Team,” Nowitzki said. “To be recognized along with so many talented players means a lot to me.”
Nowitzki was the NBA’s seventh leading scorer (25.0 ppg) and became just the 34th player in NBA history to score 20,000 career points on Jan. 13 vs. the L.A. Lakers. He currently ranks 27th on the league’s all-time scoring list with 21,111 career points. Nowitzki ranks fifth in scoring among active players behind Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, and Kevin Garnett.
This year, Nowitzki led the Mavericks to a 55-27 record. Dallas became only the fourth franchise in NBA history to win 50 games over 10 consecutive seasons (San Antonio, Boston, L.A. Lakers).
In six postseason games against San Antonio, Nowitzki is averaged 26.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 0.8 steal in 38.8 minutes while shooting 54.7 percent from the floor, 57.1 percent from 3-point range and 95.2 percent from the free throw line.
Nowitzki remains the only Mavericks player in franchise history to be named All-NBA First Team (4 times: 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2008-09) and is one of only three players (Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan) to be named to an All-NBA Team in each of the past ten seasons.
