I post about video games on this blog occasionally. I consider myself a gamer although I play more sports games than anything else. For those of you that enjoy sports games like me, more importantly, if you play EA Sports video games, there is a BIG change coming.
Starting with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, EA Sports will be including an “online pass code” which will only work once and only with that copy of the game you purchased. Meaning…if your friend wants to borrow your game, he will have to pay $10.00 for an “online pass” if he wants to play the game online.
EA Sports is doing this because stores like GameStop have been making a fortune off selling used games and EA sees none of that money. This also affects gamers who like to rent their video games online or from Blockbuster.
Publisher EA is extending its "Project Ten Dollar" scheme to make buying used copies of EA Sports games a bad idea. Don't expect to play your EA Sports games online without the "Online Pass" included in new copies.
What is Online Pass? It's a game-specific, single-use registration code included in new copies—and in new copies only—of games like the upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 that will grant Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners access to online content—"online services, features and bonus content" according to EA.

I don’t know how I feel about this. You already paid for the gaming system, then you pay for the game, and now I have to pay another $10.00 if I happen to rent a game or buy a used one just to play online? On top of that, I have a PS3 which offers free online gaming, but Xbox users have to pay for their online capabilities. That is a lot of money once you break it down.
I normally buy all my games new and used sports games are almost worthless, but I could see this type of thing transferring to all genres of games and I don’t think people are going to be pleased with it.
