I would like you to help me welcome "And this is what she said" first sponsor of 2010. I met April personally through my job. April takes material and creates beautiful things from them. I couldn't be happier to display her beautiful creations.
Here is the backstory to April's two shops:
Years ago I saw an antique beaded purse in ashop and fell in love with it - it was so beautiful Ijust had to have it! Closer examination of thecondition (and the price tag!) convinced me that it was just not going to stand up to any real use. I love old things, but to use, not just to admireon a shelf or in a display. So I learned how to make them. I already knew how to knit and sew, but the search for patterns and techniques took me about 2-3 years. Along the way I came across all kinds of beautiful old needle work patterns and started collecting them. The terminology was out of date, the materials are frequently no longer made and on the oldest patterns the instructions consist of nothing more than an illustration of the finished piece and a list of materials used. So I started updating the patterns and rewriting them for myself. Other needleworkers started asking for copies and Patterns ala Carte was born. One of my own pet peeves is having to buy an entire 20 dollar book ofpatterns just to get the one you want, so Patterns ala Carte sells them as individuals andinexpensively enough so you can play with a new technique without breaking your budget.
In 2009 I entered the Arizona State Fair and it was one of the proudest moments in my life when I discovered that every single item I entered got a ribbon and most of them first place! Needless to say, I’m hooked on the wholefair thing now!
Aprils Bag is actually my way of cleaning out all the things I make, or they’d take over the house. It’s starting to evolve it’s own personality though and I use it not only for de-stashing, but also as a way to experiment with other things when Is tart going cross-eyed from all the needlework.
