TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson and Oregon State Head Coach Mike Riley held another teleconference today discussing the Cowboys Classic on September 4th at Cowboys Stadium. Each coach spoke about their teams excitement for the game, how a big test early on gets the team’s attention, and more. Check out the highlights and the audio below…

From a TCU perspective, the most interesting thing I got from the call was about TCU’s scheduling philosophy.

Coach Patterson: “Our deal is if we have 3 non-conference ballgames, one will be a stretch game, one will be a 50-50, and one will be a one you should win. This year we feel we like we have two stretch games with a Baylor team out of the Big XII and Oregon State. Then you have a SMU team who went to a bowl game and a 1-AA team. Really the A.D. and the Chancellor have been very good about us doing that cause I still believe that winning breeds success…”

Now, I’m not one to question Coach Patterson, but does he really consider Baylor a stretch game? I consider that a game that you should win. If you are the higher ranked team, is it really a stretch if you win? You are supposed to win!

Other than that, Coach Patterson talked about what an awesome human being Tejay Johnson is, and a little about TCU’s Pyramid of Success. It is worth a listen if you have the time. If you missed the first one, check it out HERE.
