Rivals.com has tabbed TCU's Jerry Hughes as the nation's best defensive end, while Marshall Newhouse is ranked as the 18th-best offensive tackle in the country.

A tailback and kickoff returner in high school, the 6-foot-3, 257-pound Hughes never played on defense until arriving at TCU. The senior from Sugar Land, Texas, was a consensus All-American last season after leading the nation with 15 sacks and six forced fumbles. He totaled 19.5 tackles for loss while adding three fumble recoveries and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

Hughes was one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, honoring the nation's best defensive player. He was also one of 15 finalists, including one of only five defensive players, for the Walter Camp Football Foundation's 2008 Player of the Year.

Newhouse (6-4, 320), along with Marcus Cannon (6-5, 350), helps form what Rivals.com calls the best offensive tackle duo in the Mountain West Conference.

A senior from Dallas, Newhouse has started at left tackle in all 26 games the last two seasons. He is a preseason All-American and on the 2009 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List.
