CollegeFootballNews.com has named TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes to its second-team All-Decade team, while former Horned Frog standout LaDainian Tomlinson is a third-team All-Decade selection at running back.
Hughes is just the second two-time consensus All-American in TCU history (Darrell Lester, 1934-35) and the first in the Mountain West Conference. The senior from Sugar Land, Texas, is the 2009 recipient of the Lott Trophy and Ted Hendricks Award.
Hughes has 34 1/2 tackles for loss, including 26 1/2 sacks, over the last two seasons. During that stretch, he also has seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two interceptions. TCU has led the nation in defense each of the last two seasons while winning 23 of 25 games.
The first-team All-Decade defensive line includes David Pollack (Georgia), Julius Peppers (North Carolina), Tommie Harris (Oklahoma) and Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska).
Hughes is joined on the second team by Glenn Dorsey (LSU), John Henderson (Tennessee) and Terrell Suggs (Arizona State).
Tomlinson was the 2000 Doak Walker Award winner as the nation's top running back. He led the country in rushing as a junior and senior with 1,850 and 2,158 yards, respectively. He placed fourth in voting for the 2000 Heisman Trophy.
Tomlinson's 406 yards rushing against UTEP in 1999 remains an NCAA single-game record. He is TCU's career leader with 5,263 yards rushing and 54 touchdowns. Tomlinson's illustrious pro career includes his selection as the 2006 National Football League Most Valuable Player.
The CFN first-team All-Decade running backs are Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma) and Darren McFadden (Arkansas). Reggie Bush (USC) and DeAngelo Williams (Memphis) are the second-team selections. Tomlinson is on the third team with San Diego Chargers' teammate Darren Sproles (Kansas State).
