Strange but true, some years ago I went to a party and along with the evening came the topic of discussion - the new social network called Facebook. After a few glasses of wine and almost falling asleep with boredom, I admit today that my judgment on this what-his-name website was way off course.
Facebook is in your face, ready for action and filled with all the hottest news and gossip at a press of a button. The virtual world has undeniably replaced our “routine koek and tea skinder sessions” with a direct invasion into the day to day lives of our so called friends… And now the movie is here.
The “Social Network” takes us through the founding of the website back in 2003 by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg. The idea was to create a website in order for him to rate the girls at university following the break up with his girlfriend. Mark then decided to hack into the databases of the female residence halls to download their information and pictures.

He then created a webpage called “FaceMash” whereby the male students could rate the ladies against each other. Evidently he was caught and the rest… well, I honestly don’t want to spoil the movie. I can confirm that “The Social Network” has scored a combined positive 97% from over 200 reviews on the critic “go-to” Rotten Tomatoes website – which is candidly a box office kick-ass!
I’m sure you will agree that the Facebook phenomenon has changed social networking and our approach to the internet forever.
