The Frogs are sitting nicely at 6-0 and a #4 ranking half way through their season. There is still a long way to go, but let’s take a look at what we have seen so far, and give out some midseason awards.

Offensive MVP: Jeremy Kerley

Why: As good as Andy Dalton has been for most of the season, Jeremy Kerley has been even better. He leads the Frogs in receiving with 237 yards and 4 TD’s. He also has 83 yards and a TD on the ground. Kerley has had multiple games this season with over 200 all-purpose yards. His playmaking and ability to change field position on special teams makes him an even more crucial element to the offense.

Defensive MVP: Tejay Johnson

Why: Tejay is the leader of the defense and has performed like it all season long. Johnson has a total of 24 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, an interception, and a touchdown. All he does is make plays.

Unsung hero: Jake Kirkpatrick

Why: This could honestly go to the whole offensive line, but I felt Jake deserved it because the center position is the anchor of the o-line. He has protected Dalton and gave the running backs big holes to run through.

Biggest surprise: Tekerrein Cuba

Why: I honestly didn’t know how much Cuba would play this season, but he has been great to this point. He has been flying around the ball and has racked up 21 tackles already this season.

Rising star: Josh Boyce

Why: Josh Boyce was one of my young players to watch coming into this season, and he hasn’t disappointed. It kind of seems like he has taken over the role that Antoine Hicks played for the Frogs last season. He is that reliable third or fourth option who makes big catches. Boyce has 12 receptions for 155 yards and a TD thus far. He is only a redshirt freshman so we can look forward to many more catches from Boyce in a TCU uniform.

Biggest disappointment: Antoine Hicks

Why: I expected a bigger season from Antoine Hicks. He hasn’t been terrible, I just personally expected so much more from his this year. He had a good game against Wyoming so hopefully that is the start of a big second half of the season for Hicks.

Best performance: Andy Dalton vs. Baylor

Why: I don’t know if I even need to explain this one. Dalton was magnificent. He opened the game with 11 straight completions and finished 21-of-23 for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dalton set a TCU single-game record for completion percentage (91.3).

Biggest concern for second half: Defensive Secondary

Why: Jason Teague and Greg McCoy have done a good job with not allowing too many big plays, but they still make me extremely nervous. Nothing against them really, the TCU cornerbacks always make me nervous.

Offense overall: B+

Why: For the most part the offense has looked good, but it’s still not all totally together. They haven’t regained the form they were in last season. I think it’s getting there though. This seems to be the point in the season that Dalton and everyone gets their timing down and starts hitting on all cylinders. I expect big things in the second half of the season from the offense.

Defense overall: A

Why: I can’t give them an A+ yet because the season isn’t over and two of TCU’s toughest games still loom on the horizon, but there hasn’t been much to complain about. The defense is currently sitting on back-to-back shutouts and has done what we expect from a TCU defense. I know a lot of people were expecting a drop off, but the Frogs are back in the #1 spot for total defense.

I am looking forward to what the second half of the season has in store for us. Go Frogs!!
