The Frogs got their defense of the Mountain West Conference title underway on the right foot this afternoon defeating Colorado State 27-0 in Fort Collins. TCU started out slow going into the half only leading 6-0, but they turned it up in second half with 21 points and two touchdowns from Ed Wesley. Let’s break it down…

- Andy Dalton’s 39 yard fourth quarter TD pass to Jimmy Young gave him a new TCU record of 50 passing touchdowns for his career. Max Knake held the previous record with 49. Andy wasn’t great, but he wasn’t terrible. His numbers would have been better had there not been so many dropped balls. Dalton finished 11 of 24 for 109 yards and a TD. He also added 67 yards on the ground.

- Ed Wesley was the bright spot on the offense today. The sophomore from Irving was coming off a concussion from the SMU game, but looked as healthy as ever. Wesley had 15 carries for 78 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.

- It was great to see the defense get the shutout. The Frogs defense held Colorado State to a total of 161 yards. The 27-0 victory gave Gary Patterson his first road shutout in his 10 seasons as TCU head coach.

- Two standouts on the defensive side of the ball, Colin Jones had a career-high and team-best 3 1/2 tackles for loss. Tanner Brock recorded a career-high 10 tackles to lead TCU.

- I thought the Colorado State defense played well. I came in expecting to see something terrible and they were a lot better than that. They did a great job of containing Jeremy Kerley and keeping the ball out of his hands as much as possible.

- I would have liked to have seen one more touchdown. I think 34-0 looks much better on the scoreboard and TCU would have covered the 33.5 point line. Always have to get those “style points”……

- It is hard to criticize people when the team has won every game fairly comfortably, but sometimes I think our offense tries to be too cute. It is kind of the same problem the Dallas Cowboys have. The Frogs have a nasty stable of running backs and sometimes I think we fail to use them enough. I know the offensive coordinators like the screens and bubbles, but sometimes I just wish TCU would pound the ball on the ground more. That’s my only complaint.

Next up is Wyoming Saturday at The Carter. On to the next one…

Go Frogs!!
