TCU Athletic Director Chris Del Conte joined Galloway and Company on 103.3 ESPN Radio in Dallas this afternoon to address Ohio State University President Gordon Gee’s comments that TCU and Boise State should not play for the National Championship because of the teams in their conferences. Del Conte came out of the TCU corner firing and had some very interesting comments about Ohio State and the Big Ten. Here are a few of the highlights.
Ian Fitzsimmons: What was your reaction when you saw his (Gordon Gee) comments today?
Chris Del Conte: I sat back and just thought about our football program and our coach and realized that when they start throwing stones at our house, they must be jealous. We have a phenomenal football program. Our coach has done a great job, we were undefeated last year in the regular season and we are undefeated right now and someone now starts taking shots at TCU, that means we have arrived.
Secondly, I start to look at their non-conference schedule made up of the MAC schools whether it be Ohio, Eastern Michigan…I start to go wow, I had no idea that they were going out and testing themselves week in and week out.

Matt Mosley: You mean when you see Illinois and Northwestern get together you don’t get scared at the thought of having to play teams like that?
Chris Del Conte: It makes me quake in my boots, I know our coach is quaking, and I know the people of Ft. Worth are quaking.

Chris Del Conte: People that get entrenched in the old school system do not look at what’s happening in the landscape today. When Mr. Gee starts looking at what they play, I didn’t know Minnesota was a power, Indiana was power. Minnesota lost to a 1-AA team this year, Indiana got beat by 83. Anything can happen on any given Saturday.

Ian Fitsimmons: Will you be picking up the phone and calling Mr. Gene Smith up there the AD at Ohio State and see if you can get a home and home done?

Chris Del Conte: A couple years ago the Mountain West had no respect. They (Utah) went and played Alabama and what did Utah do? They destroyed Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. We play great football it’s just that some people look at it and say hmm, who are they? When they get their teeth knocked in they go oh yeah, we know who they are now.

I am not even going to get into my thoughts about this, because you should already know that I think this is ridiculous. I just want to post this up for everyone to read in case you haven’t seen it yet.
Even if TCU and Boise State run the table, they still don't deserve to be in the Bowl Championship Series title game, Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee said Wednesday.
In an interview with The Associated Press, the president at the university with the largest athletic program in the country said that TCU and Boise State do not face a difficult enough schedule to play in the national championship game.
"Well, I don't know enough about the Xs and Os of college football," said Gee, formerly the president at West Virginia, Colorado, Brown and Vanderbilt universities. "I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day.
First of all, you shouldn’t preface your statement about football with “well, I don’t know enough about the X’s and O’s of college football.” That kills all of your credibility right there. Second, little sisters of the poor? Really?....Really??? Does this guy realize Ohio State has Marshall, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Purdue, and Minnesota on their schedule?
Everyone knows how absurd these comments are, so I am going to leave it at that. Plus, I have to go to work and don’t have time to rip into this guy how I would like to. If you want to share your thoughts with Mr. E. Gorgon Gee, then here is his information below.

I have posted a few things over the last month or so about possible college football expansion and what might go down. Obviously there have been rumors about the Big Ten expanding, then came whispers about the Pac-10 following suit, and also the possibility of Boise State joining the Mountain West Conference. Well, it looks as if the first shots might have just been fired by the Pac-10.
According to Chip Brown of Rivals.com and Orangebloods.com, the Pac-10 is looking to invite six teams from the Big XII.
Because it appears the Pac-10, which has its meetings in San Francisco starting this weekend, is prepared to make a bold move and invite Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado to join its league, according to multiple sources close to the situation.

Monday afternoon Sports Radio 810 WHB in Kansas City posted an article citing “multiple sources” that the Big Ten has made initial offers to Missouri and Nebraska to join the conference. Most everyone thought a conference shakeup was coming to college football and it looks like the first steps have been taken.
I have seen multiple news outlets report on the article from Sports Radio 810 but have yet to see any media outlet confirm the report.
The Big Ten Conference has extended initial offers to join the league to four universities including Missouri and Nebraska from the Big 12, according to multiple sources close to the negotiations.
While nothing can be approved until the Big Ten presidents and chancellors meet the first week of June in Chicago, the league has informed the two Big 12 schools, Notre Dame and Rutgers that it would like to have them join.
KansasCity.com has a article up from Monday afternoon with quotes from Missouri and Nebraska officials denying all reports.
An Internet report Monday said the Big Ten has extended initial offers to four schools, including Missouri and Nebraska, to join the conference. But a source long involved in Missouri athletics told The Star that the Big Ten has made no such offer.
“There’s nothing there at all,” said the source, who said he had spoken with MU athletic director Mike Alden on Monday. “Not yet. … nothing has changed.”
Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman replied "none whatsoever" when asked by the Lincoln Journal-Star whether the report had any validity concerning his school.
As a TCU supporter, I hope the administration is being proactive and is looking for possibilities if there is a major shakeup with the conferences. The Frogs have been left out once and I don’t want to see it happen again.
