RECENT POST

I have posted a few things over the last month or so about possible college football expansion and what might go down. Obviously there have been rumors about the Big Ten expanding, then came whispers about the Pac-10 following suit, and also the possibility of Boise State joining the Mountain West Conference. Well, it looks as if the first shots might have just been fired by the Pac-10.

According to Chip Brown of Rivals.com and Orangebloods.com, the Pac-10 is looking to invite six teams from the Big XII.

Because it appears the Pac-10, which has its meetings in San Francisco starting this weekend, is prepared to make a bold move and invite Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado to join its league, according to multiple sources close to the situation.

Left out would be Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska and Missouri.

Then, Thursday evening, Joe Schad of ESPN “tweeted” this comment which seems to back up Chip Brown’s report.

If this is indeed true, it will totally shake up the college football landscape more than the Big Ten adding a couple of teams. Chip Brown’s report says the new merger between the Pac-10 and Big XII will be split into two, eight team divisions which when you think about it, it wouldn’t be too bad for travel. If you are Texas, you would still have 5 fairly close games like you had in the Big XII, plus I would assume that Arizona and Arizona State would be along with six Big XII members which would work out well regionally.

To take a look at this from the TCU perspective as I like to do, this could be very good for them. The Mountain West could keep Utah who was rumored to possibly get a Pac-10 invite. The MWC could then invite Boise State, Kansas, Kansas State, and one other which would then create and very solid conference for football, baseball, and basketball. If that came to fruition and wiped out the remainder of the Big XII, the new Mountain West Conference could be added to the BCS. At least that is what would happen in a perfect world.

We will just have to wait and see what happens but it appears this story has some legs to it. All I know at this point is that I love these conference expansion rumors and the speculation surrounding it all.
