All the excitement today has been about BYU leaving the Mountain West Conference and what that does to TCU, but there is still practice taking place on the field in preparation for the Frogs big opener on September 4th against Oregon State. I’ve got a practice update and audio for you below.
- I haven’t seen a lot of him, but what I have seen of Ross Forrest, has impressed me. He is battling for the left defensive end position, and looks to be the front runner at this point.
- Coach Patterson was happier with the defense today. He said it usually depends on the day and the mood he is in. When asked if he was happier with the defenses performance than he was on Saturday when has was disappointed with them, he said “on tape, it wasn’t as bad as we thought it was. We gave up two big plays, and our offense on 36 plays had only 91 yards of total offense on our number ones. On most days you would probably take that, but we gave up two touchdowns which I’m not happy with.”
- Travaras Battle-Smith had an interception in the team portion of practice.
- In the, you learn something everyday part of this posting, I asked Coach Patterson about Jimmy Young playing the slot, and I was informed that Jimmy is no longer in the slot, and is now back outside.
Coach Patterson: He is playing outside now. Those kinds of guys always give you a bigger wide receiver. Any time you can have a bigger guy, stronger like a Kerley where they weigh 195-200 pounds and they can make you miss. Hard to tackle with an arm so it makes a difference.
Coach Patterson: Were not happy yet with where we are with the offensive line completely. There are some guys, who come back, but we have two and a half weeks left and we have a lot of improvement to do.
