The finalist for the college football awards are coming out and TCU is being represented very well. Tejay Johnson is a finalist for the Thorpe Award, Andy Dalton is a finalist for the Unitas Award, and Gary Patterson is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson award. Also, Bart Johnson has been named an Academic All-American.
Tejay Johnson a Finalist for Jim Thorpe Award
The Jim Thorpe Award Screening Committee has announced TCU safety Tejay Johnson as one of three finalists for the 2010 Jim Thorpe Award, presented annually to the nation¹s best college defensive back.
Johnson and the other finalists, Nebraska's Prince Amukamara and LSU's Patrick Peterson, will be invited to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., for the Dec. 9 Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show. The winner will be announced that night with the official presentation made at a formal banquet in Oklahoma City on Feb. 7.
Andy Dalton Tabbed Unitas Award Finalist
TCU quarterback Andy Dalton has been named one of five finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, recognizing the nation's top senior quarterback.
The other finalists are Colin Kaepernick (Nevada), Christian Ponder (Florida State), Ricky Stanzi (Iowa) and Scott Tolzien (Wisconsin). The 2010 winner will be presented with the Golden Arm Award on Friday, Dec. 10, at the Tremont Grand Meeting & Banquet Facility in Baltimore.
Dalton, the nation's leader in wins by an active quarterback with 40, ranks fifth nationally with a 163.94 pass efficiency rating. It's the second straight year he's been in the top 10.
Gary Patterson Named Finalist for Eddie Robinson Award
The Football Writers Association of America, in conjunction with the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, has announced TCU's Gary Patterson as one of eight finalists for the 2010 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
Patterson was last year's recipient of the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. It was one of his nine national coach of the year honors in the 2009 campaign.
Patterson has third-ranked TCU one win away from its second-straight undefeated regular season. The Horned Frogs can clinch their second consecutive outright Mountain West Conference championship, and third in six years, with a victory Saturday at New Mexico.
Patterson has led TCU to at least 10 wins for the seventh time in the last nine years, including six seasons with at least 11 victories.
Bart Johnson Named Academic All-American
TCU wide receiver Bart Johnson has been voted a second-team ESPN Academic All-American.Johnson is TCU's first Academic All-American since placekicker Nick Browne in the 2002 and 2003 campaigns.
A senior marketing major from Brownwood, Texas, Johnson is third on the Horned Frogs with 29 receptions for 392 yards and three touchdowns. He appeared on the Academic All-District team for the third consecutive season.
