I have been holding onto this, but I think it is time for it to be released. In last Wednesday’s edition of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, Mr. Randy Galloway had a nice column on Roy Tarpley and his lawsuit that was just settled. Inside of that column I read one of the most outrageous things I have ever seen. Galloway says Roy, to this day, ranks as the biggest train wreck in local pro sporthttp://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/imgs/grey_loader.gif history, and that covers a lot of wreckage. He was also the best player in Mavericks’ history, and for those who might want to dispute that, I can amend it to say Roy was the best talent in Mavs’ history, and there will be no argument.”

Well Randy, you can change around words and meanings all you want but in no way, shape, or form was Roy Tarpley ever a better, or more talented player than Dirk Nowitzki. That goes for on and off the court! I know Galloway is old, but there is no way he can honestly believe in that statement.

If you would watch the damn games, you would realize that Dirk is the greatest player to ever wear a Mavericks jersey. How many playoff victories did Roy Tarpley lead the Mavs to? How many MVP awards did Roy Tarpley win? How many times did Roy Tarpley get to the NBA Finals? The only thing Tarpley has beat Dirk at is being a complete failure and seeing how much cocaine he can get into his nose.

Let us just do some comparisons real quick…

Roy Tarpley

- 7th pick in 1986 Draft and a complete bust

- Averaged 12.6 Points and 10 rebounds a game

- Played in 24 playoff games with Dallas, averaged 17 points per game.

- 6 year career with the Mavericks

- Highest Award: 87-88 Sixth Man of the Year

Dirk Nowitzki

- 9th pick in 1998 Draft and not a complete bust

- Averages 22.7 points and 8.6 rebounds a game

- Has played in 104 playoff games with Dallas, averages 25.3 points per game

- In his 11th season with the Mavericks

- Has the most career points in Mavs franchise history (Yes, that is more than Tarpley)

- Highest Award: 06-07 NBA MVP

Just to make a point, here are Dirk’s accomplishments with the Mavericks alone

Dallas Mavericks franchise records

Most points, franchise leader in total: 18,383 (as of February 2009[update]

Most points in a game, season, overtime: 53

Most points in a game, season, regulation: 51

Most points in a game, playoffs: 50

Most free throws made, consecutive: 60

Most free throws in a game, made, none missed: 15

Most free throws in a game, attempted, playoffs: 24

Most free throws in a game, made, playoffs: 21

Most free throws made in a playoff run: 205

Most rebounds, franchise leader in total: 6,965 (as of 2009[update])

Most defensive rebounds, season: 710

Named NBA Player of the Week, franchise leader in total: 10

If that isn’t enough, Dirk has a whole Wikipedia page just to list his career accomplishments in basketball. It is right HERE. Randy must have over looked that.

Now, I am no Einstein but I would take Dirk’s “talent” over Roy Tarpley’s any day of the week. Randy can say there is no argument, but there is a HUGE argument. Roy might have been the best “talent” the Mavs had back in 1986, but it’s the 2000’s now and Dirk Nowitzki is the greatest basketball talent this city has ever seen. End of story.
