Originally, a lot of people were under the impression that Vick would not be allowed back in the league until week 6. That is not the case.

Goodell will decide no later than Week 6 when Vick will be allowed to play in a regular-season game. Goodell could decide to allow Vick to play in a regular-season game as early as Week 1 or not at all. The only thing Goodell has promised is that he will inform Vick of his regular-season status no later than Week 6.

It is NOT a six-week suspension. This is a quote from an NFL official that gives you some insight:

"This is a step-by-step process that goes up to Week 6; it is not a six-game suspension by any means," Ray Anderson, the league's executive vice president of football operations, said on NFL.com. "If all goes well, he could be playing anytime from Week 1 forward."
