Earlier this year, I put out my TCU Football season preview for 2010. In 2009, I nailed most of my predictions, so let’s go back and take a look at 2010.
Andy is the key to this offense. Dalton is currently the winningest QB in college football and is only one win away from passing Sammy Baugh on the all-time TCU win list. It is crucial that Dalton plays well and stays healthy if TCU hopes to have success.
Dalton threw for 2,638 yard with 26 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions this season. He also led the Frogs to another undefeated regular season. I don’t know what more you could ask for.
A guy to keep your eye on is redshirt freshman #82 Josh Boyce.
I was expecting good things from Josh Boyce, but he even exceeded my expectations. Boyce finished the season with 33 catches for 602 yards and 6 touchdowns. Boyce had at least one reception in 11 of 12 games this year and was named to two separate freshman All-American teams.
I don’t know if this is the deepest Coach Patterson and TCU has ever been at running back, but I can’t think of a time where he has had more talent in the backfield. Matthew Tucker and Ed Wesley are expected to get the bulk of the carries, but watch out for Aundre Dean.
The Frogs didn’t go as deep in the backfield as I originally thought they would, but it’s not because of a lack of talent. Matthew Tucker and Ed Wesley were the work horses this year so there wasn’t a lot of need for Aundre Dean and Waymon James. Ed Wesley is the first Horned Frog to top 1,000 yards rushing since Robert Merrill in 2003.
I think you will see the Horned Frogs defense take a small step back this season, but it won’t be drastic. Instead of being in the top 5, they might be more in the 10-15 range.
I couldn’t have been more wrong about the defense. Not only was there no drop off from last season, they finished #1 once again for the third straight season. This defense is different from last seasons, but it is just as good.
There is not one team on TCU’s schedule that they cannot beat. The hardest game will be in Utah, but the game that worries me the most is Oregon State. If TCU wins the Oregon State game this Saturday, they will go undefeated in the regular season for the second straight year and appear in another BCS game.
TCU went undefeated for the second straight season and are playing in the Rose Bowl. I was wrong on the Utah game though. The Utes were no competition to the Frogs.
I have already started thinking about the 2011 season and it will be an interesting one. TCU loses a lot of key pieces after the Rose Bowl and will also have a new starting QB. It should be a fun one, but a lot of questions have to be answered in the offseason. Before all of that, it is Pasadena and the Rose Bowl, so let’s enjoy watching this senior class one last time.
