The rumors are swirling that Tennessee is expected to fire men’s head basketball coach Bruce Pearl any day now. The Vols losing by 30 today probably pushed him out the door even further. Despite that and his recruiting mess with the NCAA, TCU should bring him to Ft. Worth for an interview.
Although Pearl is being accused of violating NCAA recruiting rules, there wouldn’t be a better coach to lead the TCU basketball team into the Big East. He is good coach, and a big enough name that it would make an immediate impact. He led Tennessee to six consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. TCU can barely win games in the Mountain West tournament. If I am TCU Athletic Director Chris Del Conte, I am on the phone to Pearl as soon as the word comes down that he is fired. Del Conte could at least inquire to see what it would take to get him here.
Jim Christian is not the answer for TCU basketball. I know the University doesn’t want to buy out his contract, but something needs to be done. If the Frogs don’t make a change before going to the Big East, you better get accustomed to 20 and 30 point blowouts on a nightly basis. It won’t hurt anything just to talk to him. Do it Chris, do it.
