So, Jason Kidd has finally decided to return to the Mavs. I know some fans are upset while others are happy. Let me tell you why this is a good thing.

1. Who else was going to be the Mavs point guard this season? Jason Kidd is still a top 10-15 point guard in this league, and can run and facilitate this offense. Plus, I still haven’t seen a viable option in free agency or a trade. You want J.J. Barea to lead this team next season?

2. Jason Kidd can help entice players for the “big” free agency class of 2010. You can deny it all you want, but superstars around this league want to play with Jason Kidd. The likes of Kobe, Lebron, etc… say it every year.

3. You can attempt to put the problems of the Mavs solely on Kidd’s shoulders, but he isn’t the problem. The problem is this team has no consistent scorer outside of Dirk. If you put the right players around Kidd, he can still be a factor and contributor. Just like Derek Fisher was for the Lakers this season.

4. You have Kidd around for 3 more years to continue his teaching of the young players like Barea, plus Dallas is bringing in Rowdy Rodd Beaubois and eventually Nick Calathes. You could tell a huge difference in Barea last season and I think you are naïve if you don’t contribute some of that success to Kidd being around.

The Mavs had to get this deal done, and im glad Cuban pulled it out. This offseason is far from over and now I can’t wait to see what Dallas does with the Stack chip.

Remember, I said back in April that Jason Kidd holds the Mavs future in his hands. Let’s see how the pieces fall now.
