I noticed something on Saturday night as the camera panned past the Mavs bench during their win over the Bulls in Chicago. It was a sweat band on DeShawn Stevenson’s leg. The sweat band had a number on it, but the number wasn’t 92.
Let’s go back a couple days. After Jason Terry was injured by an elbow Wednesday night against Minnesota, DeShawn Stevenson had this to say on Thursday.
"The only thing I'd like for us is to bring is a little toughness,'' Stevenson said.”The situation that happened to Jason, I don't want to say 'give somebody a cheap shot,' but we've got to help each other out, be a little tougher. We've got to send a message. Personally, I didn't like what happened to Jason. I just felt like we should have taken a hard foul to send the message that we're here.''
Then on Friday night against the Kings, Stevenson knocked down a three-pointer from the corner and put his arms out to do the JET celebration.

For the last two games Stevenson has been sporting a sweat band around his lower calf with Jason Terry’s number 31 on it. I first noticed it on Saturday night, but I went back and looked at pictures from Friday night’s game against Sacramento and Stevenson was wearing it then as well.
I didn’t know much about DeShawn Stevenson before he came to the Mavericks, but with what I have seen from him, and the little bit of interaction I have had with him, he seems to be a very nice and sincere guy.
It looks like the Mavs have a quality teammate and a true enforcer off the bench.
