TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes has been selected to Sports Illustrated's 2009 Preseason All-America Team.

A consensus All-American last season, Hughes has already been named to watch lists for four major postseason awards - Walter Camp Player of the Year, Ted Hendricks Award, Rotary Lombardi Award and Lott Trophy.

Hughes was one of five finalists last year for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, honoring the nation's best defensive player. Hughes was among 15 finalists, including one of just five defensive players, for the 2008 Walter Camp Player of the Year award. He was also a Ted Hendricks Award finalist.

Hughes led the nation in 2008 with 15 sacks and six forced fumbles. The 6-foot-3, 257-pound senior also ranked in the top 10 in tackles for loss (19.5) and fumble recoveries (three). He added two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

TCU is ranked 17th in Sports Illustrated's Preseason Top 20 poll.
