TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes has been named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America team.

The AFCA All-America team, in place since 1945, is the only All-America team chosen exclusively by coaches.

Hughes anchors the nation's second-ranked defense. The Horned Frogs are 12-0, Mountain West Conference champions and in position for their first BCS appearance.

A senior from Sugar Land, Texas, Hughes has 15 tackles for loss, including 11 1/2 sacks, among a career-high 54 stops.

Hughes, on pace to graduate this spring with a degree in communications, is a finalist for five national awards: the Lott Trophy, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Rotary Lombardi Award, Ted Hendricks Award and Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. He received a Local Hero Award from Bank of America in October for his work in the community.

Hughes was a consensus All-American last season when he led the nation with 15 sacks and six forced fumbles.
